I've seen ads on TV for weeks now about Oprah's Big Give... a new TV show. All I got out of the ads was that a hand full of people were given money to make a difference. Honestly, I thought "what's so special about that? So Oprah hands out cash like she does cars. cool." But as I watched tonight, I cried.
10 people were chosen, and yes, handed $. They were also assigned a person who desperately needed help- the challenge was to help the person as much as they could. At first, I'm thinking "ok, take the $5,000 and set up a fund" whatever. Oh no- these 10 people did amazing things...
a widow with 2 kids got their mortgage paid and college scholorships for the kids.
a homeless woman got a car, a home, and scholorships for her 2 kids.
a wounded serviceman who was losing his home was given a place to live- and enough money for his wife to stay home and take care of him and his kids.
A mom who set up an organization for mentally challenged adults was given supplies for her organization plus cash to use how she needs and continue helping others who need it...
a doctor needed help paying off his school loans before he can donate his time for free to help under-privledged kids with free medical care
These people didn't just help a few who needed it. They also inspired others to donate to every day people who desperately needed hope.
I'm impressed... Good job, Oprah. I'm inspired.
